My Luxury

Today I did something that my friend, Elaine says isn't a "luxury." I will have to agree with her.

Her words are:
"Conferences are NOT a luxury - I consider them training, therapy, andinspiration all rolled into one. I am a much better mom and teacher after Iattend a conference and my family is blessed because of it."

So I went to "training" today in Longview, Washington. A very good friend of mine has put on a conference about time of year for the past six. I am so thankful because now is about the time I'm ready to ship all my kids to some boarding school on the European continent, and I kid you not. All the rain and gray days get me down. This has been a very hard beginning to a calendar year and I was so thankful for the conference today. I was able to recharge my batteries and gather a few new ideas. I think the best thing was going with five other wonderful ladies who filled out my car. It made the two and a half hour trip feel like nothing and a joy to get up at 4 am.

A couple things I brought away from the conference.

I need to do more reading aloud with my children. "They need something in their store house if you want them to take it out (and put it on paper)."

I really need to turn Kray's education over to him. We need to sit down and plan out the next five years of his education and then give it to him to make or break it.

Steve isn't doing such a bad job, we just need a reminder now and then.

I need to be a bit more creative in my schooling and recharge my batteries more often.

I also learned that we homeschooling moms need each other more than we think and need to take a step in connecting with people before we get in over our head. I'm always available to talk. If you know my private email then email me or use waldsfe@hotmail.com. We really need each other if we are going to make it.

Doreen
