Our local school district had the day off and it was a beautiful sunny day. With those circumstances we had a quick school day and then a very long recess. But we still got in a "full" day of classes.

We started the day with a pop quiz on the Mexican-American War. The kids are really listening and it does my heart proud. We then took the war all the way up to the first bullet that was fired. Of course no one knows who fired it, but "American blood, was spilt on American soil."

We then went on to the science lesson with another pop quiz; this time orally. Again I am surprised at how much we are learning.

Then on a spelling test, grammar lesson, reading comprehension lesson (which not a one got done the night before), we also reviewed our weekly vocabulary words.

The kids had music practice, math and typing to do but I don't think it got done very well as after lunch as the kids ran outside.

A few hours later I popped in a "Good Eats" DVD and started watching it. Within a few minutes the kids came back inside and sat down to watch with me. I didn't get to watch too much of it because I promptly fell asleep. I woke up long enough to kick the kids back outside, but they wanted to watch. I can't blame them, they are great videos and chuck full of information and knowledge. I let them watch and at the end I kicked them outside. Within minutes, Steve drove up to take the older two up to the slopes so they could teach their skiing classes. (Yes, that is part of school too.)

I spent the rest of the afternoon previewing the movie Roots to show with our unit on Civil War.

Not a bad day for a "non school day." Hope next week we have a few more like these.
