This week is our local school district's mid winter break. It is really hard to school when everyone else is out and calling to have one of my children come over and play. I have to remind them that my children are still in school or make allowances for my children to miss their school. Part of me wants to say, "You don't let your kid skip school to come play with my kid during the day, so why should I have my kid skip school to play while your kid is out of school." But I'm nice and I took a kid over to a friends house, but it wasn't until he was done with his school work.

Now let me say right here and now that my friend didn't say or do the above and I didn't say or do the above. In fact the friend in question was a homeschooler and is very supportive when I say that my son can not come over until his school work is done. She truly is a great friend.

Today we started a science experiment that we will see the final results tomorrow. We talked about how to write a lab down in our lab books (the kids were getting sloppy). We are still working on our geology unit and will be doing a few more experiments tomorrow.

Each kid has the regular stuff (morning check list, scripture study, music practice, fun reading, journal writing) and today each kid had a math assignment. Those in scouts had to spend 30 minutes doing something for their next rank or award. Those that needed to finish up their poetry notebooks spent a few minutes getting those ready for turn in.

One top of all that they all had a housework assignment. My house looks pretty good because of that extra assignment. I believe that doing housework is part of a solid education.

Kray spent the afternoon designing a dice roller. It works beautifully. I am very impressed with his work. He wishes he could take it to game night, but that isn't going to happen tonight. I can't wait to see Steve's face when he sees it.

I spent the time cleaning up the school room and finally labeling the book shelves. I didn't get done by the time I had to take Jessie to ballet and Kray and Jason to their theater class. All the other classes that happen on our Enrichment Tuesday were cancelled because of mid winter break.

Not a bad day, but could have been better.
