Ever want to be a fly on the wall in a homeschool "class room?" Well, this blog will give you just that chance. I promise no fly swatters. Of course everything is copyrighted.

2-28-06

Today wasn't much different than any other Tuesday. I had therapy in the morning, kids slept in (which they aren't supposed to do) and we started 30 minutes later than I wanted to.

We did some science experiments about molds and casts (we are talking about fossils) and had a 30 plus minute discussion about the way fossils form. We then started the Mexican-American War with a brief history of Mexico. We got to just before the Battle at Alamo. I will have to continue my reading tonight so we can continue. I'm about a week behind in my prep work, but we need to move on.

We did out core subjects as requested in our "win-win" talk a few days ago. They aren't fighting too hard, but I'm just waiting for the fight to happen. I really have been too easy on them. They were so angry at me when I set the timer for 5 minutes and had them do a free write on "Where they wanted to go on vacation this summer." Tomorrow we are going to go through it again and this time edit it. I've got to get them writing and reading more than they are. I just don't know how to get my 12 year old to pick up a book on his own and read it (not counting Harry Potter).

Kray had piano and guitar and I took Jason to drum lessons. Jessie had her music class and then ballet. I got to watch a few minutes and she just LOVES that class. I hate to stop for the summer, but I just can't do ballet and soccer. Chris, Matt and Mike had art class and Kray and Jason had their theater class.

Of course they are still playing Carmen San Diego and not doing their chores as I type and I really don't want to be the mean mom….maybe I can think of a win-win here.
