Today started off rather awful. Just as I was getting the lessons started--I was in the middle of calling the kids to the school room when life's horrible lessons played out in the small hands of my son. My oldest son, Kray, has a parakeet that he got back in December for his birthday. This morning he found it at the bottom of its cage. It wasn't perching on his hand nor was it acting like it was suppose to. I tried to comfort him by telling him I would call a vet at the end of my lesson. As I tried to teach the lesson I could tell the bird wasn't doing well. It kind of fell from his hand and didn't do what Skittles (his name) does. I called my vet and got the name of a bird vet. As I was talking with the vet, I looked at Kray and noticed the Skittles was very stiff in his hands. The receptionist on the phone heard me talking to Kray and excused herself from the phone and wished me well as I comforted my son. She was very helpful and didn't even know it.
Kray was very, very upset to say the least. His piano/guitar teacher came about 45 minutes after Skittles died and so we had to ask him to cancel today. Thankfully he was very understanding himself.
We then had lunch and watched a DVD on Davey Crockett. I ran Jason to his drum lesson. I ran to the library and then the party store (I'm throwing a ward birthday party). After I picked Jason up I went to get my oil changed. What was supposed to be only a few minutes (10 minutes or less) ended up being 45 minutes. They gave me a discount, how nice.
When I got home, Matt had gone to a friends house (it is our school district's spring break) and Kray was still distraught. He was cradling the box he put Skittles in. The weather was just to good to finish any school and I have a major project I need to get done. This also gave the kids time to catch up on their homework--which they are all behind.
We didn't do much "school" learning but we did a lot of life learning.
