Magical Monday
Most Mondays are just full of promise, but today it wasn't. I came back from therapy (which was brutal--I expect to see bruises tomorrow morning) and chaos is what I was greeted with at the door. Steve was gone which accounts for most of the chaos. Chris was at the piano with the piano teacher and the rest were downstairs in the school room arguing over who had the next turn on the computer. What they were doing on the computer is beyond me. They did have their assignments laid out. We argued about the paper that was due first thing this morning. Since Mike was the only one who did it, the others needed to write their paper on their thoughts on the Mexican-American War.
I didn't have a shower this morning because I was going to therapy so I ran upstairs and jumped in the shower while they wrote their paper. When I came downstairs I had all three papers on my desk and the kids were busy reading their books (one of their assignments). They wrapped it up and we talked about their progress (or lack thereof) in their scouting. They spent the next half hour working on merit badges or taking turns at piano lessons.
While they did this I had my visiting teachers over.
We then had lunch.
I would have taken Jason to violin lessons but his teacher is in the hospital (I hope it isn't serious) so they went out to play while I read. Jason (who is working on his Family Life Merit Badge) taped Jessie's ceiling so dad could come home and paint her ceiling. (We are almost done with her room!)
After he finished taping, he joined the others outside. I'm not sure what game they played out there but it has some very odd mix of equipment; a tennis racquet, roller blades, chalk, a tennis ball and I'm not sure what else. Imagination is something that shouldn't be stifled so I let them play a bit longer than I had planned.
After they were through playing (I think someone got hurt) the came in and we went over their papers. We then watched the 1960 version of "The Alamo" starring John Wayne. We then watched the 2004 version of "The Alamo" starring Dennis Quaid. We compared the two movies with what we really know as truth. It was a very good discussion.
Jessie helped me with dinner while the rest of the kids cleaned up the house and Steve painted Jessie's ceiling.
We had a FHE lesson over dinner as we discussed what a hypocrite was.
Not a bad day, even though I didn't get the spelling, grammar and science lesson in.
