My Poets~
We are wrapping up our unit on Poetry and I thought I would share a few of my kids' writings. Some are not worthy of posting, but they each did a great one.
All are copy righted 2006 ~ please ask for permission before using waldsfe@hotmail.com
Kray, 14 years old and my oldest, wrote this gem as a free verse.
The Lonely Giraffe
by Kray Blanding
I was walking down a hill one day,
When I saw a most wonderful thing;
It was a baby giraffe standing all alone.
I asked that giraffe why he was all alone.
"I'm too small to play with the bigger giraffe
And too big to play with the other animals," said the giraffe.
So I replied, "I will play with you, giraffe."
And we walked off hand in hand.
Together we played all sorts of games like:
Hopscotch, Tic Tac Toe, and Pin the Tail on the Donkey.
We also played other games that you probably don't know like:
Pliterplater, Diderdader, Flap Dlap,
And the best game of all,
Flapalitodapellaspelflaper.
By then it was time to go.
We decided to meet tomorrow at 12,
For that they say "Will never be better."
Jason, my 12 year old and my second born, who really hated writing poems, wrote this free verse.
Alex
by Jason Blanding
Alexander is our dog.
Such a faithful dog.
He's loyal and he's comfortable,
Oh, what a faithful dog.
Mike who is 10 and my third born, who liked writing poems, wrote this Haiku.
Fall
by Michael Blanding
Frost has come to town
Beautiful, Lovely colors
Falling and dying
And this free verse
Chris
by Michael Blanding
Christopher is my brother,
He knows when someone's sad.
He knows when I am feeling blue,
And how to make me smile.
He had to write a poem about colors:
by Michael Blanding
Blue the color of my blood.
Yellow the color of the enemy going to bed.
(His dad really liked this one.)
Matthew, who is all of 8 and my the fourth born, had a fun time writing his poems,
by Matthew Blanding
The mighty ghost
Is the host
For this ball
He's really small.
Color
by Matthew Blanding
Red is the color of the flame.
Blue is the color of the waves.
White is the color of the pure.
Black the color of the night.
Green the color of the grass.
Yellow the color of the sun.
The Gospel of Jesus Christ
by Matthew Blanding
The gospel of Jesus Christ
Is the most important thing in the world.
The gospel tells us what is right and what is wrong.
Tiger
by Matthew Blanding
The tiger lurks in the grass
For a tasty snack to eat.
Oh no! the monkey is on the ground.
The tiger going to eat him.
Chris who just turned 7 and is learning to read, wrote these poems.
By Christopher Blanding
I am cute.
I love my family.
I swim like a frog.
I can give out lots of love.
I love my dog.
I am a lookout.
The Dog
by Christopher Blanding
I have a dog.
His name is Alex.
He is a cute dog.
he is a fluffy dog.
Jessie my baby girl wrote some very sweet poems and I posted them here.
We had a great unit even though I heard a lot of complaining about the assignments.
