School on the Road...
...or is that the island. Today we took the kids (with two other families) to Jetty Island. This is such a wonderful little man made island, even when you get the day off to a horrible start. We eventually got there and had a little lunch before the shortest ferry ride in the world. Before we could play in the water we took a little classed titled "Mud Flat Safari." We learned a lot about the island and the little critters that live in the mud. The lady ranger did a great job with the group of kids she had and we had a blast digging up crabs, ghost shrimp, clams and on the other side some type of worm I forgot the name off. We learned how to identify girl crabs and boy crabs
After our safari was over we spent the next few hours playing in the sand. It was a bit over cast and of course the wind was a bit strong, but we had fun. The kids really didn't want to come home, but we had too. On the way to the ferry boat the boys couldn't stop pointing out all the places we found the crabs and shrimp. We also talked about the barnacles. Did you know they glue their heads to the rocks and eat with their feet? We just found that out today.
We had a great day and even learned a few things.
