Today was a day of trying to finish up a major project before the due date--February 14th.
The kids finished up their poetry notebooks. It wasn't a pretty thing, but most of them got their books completed. I hope to they will give me permission to publish a few of their poems. They actually did some great work. Even my 5 year old daughter wrote a poem.
My oldest, Kray, had a report due for a history-writing class, so he spent some time getting that put together. I wish he would have worked on it during his down time last week and this past weekend. Since I had surgery last week there was a bunch of down time.
Jason, my second and 12 years olds, had the hardest time putting poems on paper (or the computer screen). It was very difficult for him and I even shortened his requirements by five poems. Kray sat down with him in the end to help him out. I was quite proud that he wanted his brother to finish, but at the same time, I was disappointed that Jason threw a fit.
Mike, did a great job putting his 15 poems on paper. Matt who is only 8 put a few of them down on paper as well.
Now I personally do the same major assignments that I give my children so I had to write 30 poems myself. I still have a bit of polishing to put on a few of them. My editor (read, my husband) still needs to look them over.
We also did a science experiment. We are in the middle of a general science course and we made crystals today. The next time we pick it up we will be talking about strata and sedimentary rocks. (We are in the middle of the geology chapter.)
We ended the day watching last night's Olympics. We are huge sports fans so we couldn't pass up watching them. But we do talk about "school" stuff as we watch. Where is this country, or that country? Why aren't their any Mexican athletes? The questions continue. Since there was a bit of sunshine, I also sent the kids out to play.
With all this we also had piano lessons and a violin lesson.
I think it was a good day.
